The Station Food Hub Company

The Station Food Hub Company, located in Newport Station at the entrance to the Annapolis Valley, is a social purpose business that adds value to local food with a focus on “perfectly imperfect” food to up-cycle into usable products.

Did you know, on some farms 40% of crop yields are left unsold because they do not meet commercial standards? For example a potato not being round enough, or a carrot not straight enough. This is the unused potential The Station Food Hub Company taps into. We purchase produce destined for the waste stream from farmers, turn it into saleable products, and then make it available to the Nova Scotian marketplace.

We support other Nova Scotia small businesses and producers as well. We offer space rental in our building that can be turned into commercial kitchens, we have a team of experienced staff that can help with product development and packaging solutions, we have dry and cold storage facilities as well as offer distribution of local food

The Station Food Company, is the value-added food division of our operations. We open new markets for Nova Scotian producers through our emphasis on diverting under-utilized food and other products to create upcycled products. We are a food link between producers and consumers that uses product that would otherwise be wasted.

The Station Food Company does not grow or harvest food. We purchase items that other purchasers do not want, transport it to our CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) certified facility in Newport Station and upcycle it into value added products which are then sold on to consumers – individuals or institutions

The Food Hub, offers a range of solutions for agri-food businesses. We have onsite cold and dry storage, a shipping and receiving area with pallet stacker, long term commercial spaces for lease, and product development opportunities for food businesses.
