Stewart’s Organic Farm
Stewarts Organic Farm, Hortonville, Nova Scotia
The Stewart’s have been farming in the Hortonville/Grand Pre area for many generations. It is one of the few surviving non-supply managed farms in the area, and has adapted by concentrating on direct marketing, particularly at the Wolfville Farmers Market. Alan Stewart was very active in the formation, and early development of the Wolfville Farmers Market, and the Atlantic Canadian Organic Certification movement. Both direct marketing and organic certification are two important cornerstones of the success, and future, of Stewart Organic Farm. Current farming activities are primarily fruit, berries and vegetables, and we are upgrading 20 acres of land to allow the growing of grains to further diversify our operation.
